vintage_belleBecause of the flight at 8 this morning (Bangkok, Thailand to Siem Reap, Cambodia), Mom and I have been awake since 5 this morning. Mom has since semi-crashed, but I am determined to stay awake this last 1/2 hour to see out 2010.
Today was a great send-off to the year. Once we arrived at the hotel we enjoyed the luxury of doing nothing a bit. We set off to find lunch and found it in a restaurant about 5 minutes away. Then we came back and I treated myself to the spa here. Cambodian prices are ridiculous. A peppermint body scrub, massage, and facial (2 hours and 30 minutes) were included in a $78 package. Add the hotel 30% discount and it was basically free. A very good time indeed.
The hotel provides a New Year's banquet for $65 a person - from 7 to 8 there is socializing in the front of the hotel with drinks and Thai boxing. Dinner is from 8 to whenever you're full and all the food is included in the $65, though drinks are separate. While you eat there is Thai dancing and singing alternately. Right now they're back to singing, but they're singing modern now (Livin' La Vida Loca as I type, and earlier they were singing the Macarena) instead of the ABBA and Madonna of the 80s they were singing before.
2010 was, all told, a very good year. But then, no year could be worse than 2009. Here's hoping that 2011 will be similarly good.
