Spent the weekend at Amanda's house once again. This time we started with karaoke (with a several people from Joytalk I haven't seen since training). Saturday was ikebana and Kamen Rider W: Begins Night. (Also the Decade movie, but I think I missed something because, uh. What?) And then W and Decade teamed up at the very end of the movie and more questions were raised than answered but it was seriously pretty and *___________________*
Saturday night I finally watched the first episode of Shinkenger and now I really want a new external harddrive so I had the space to download and watch the whole show. Watching the first episode brought about conversation of said series (as it often does). Conversation turned to shipping, which turned to questions of shipping and how Genta could basically go with everyone but Ryuunosuke. Genta basically going with everyone but Ryuunosuke turned into a verbal retelling of the day Genta confessed to Ryuunosuke. That verbal retelling is now 'fic.
Genta grinned proudly at his masterful creation, standing with his hands on his hips and nodding his satisfaction. It was the perfect box of sushi - it would do the job for sure! Ryuunosuke would recognize the depth of his feelings, and then he would recognize Genta as a samurai. Genta placed the lid carefully over the box, then carefully picked up the box and carefully walked to the main room where the Shinkenger gathered; and would be gathering for calligraphy practice soon. Ryuunosuke was already there. Genta pumped the air with a fist. Now or never!
Go, go, Umemori Sushi of Love!
"Ryuunosuke!"
"Ah, Genta," Ryuunosuke offered a nod of his head.
Genta clutched the box and then thrust it at the other man. "I had spare supplies and made sushi! I thought you'd like some."
Ryuunosuke smiled and took the box. "Oh, thank you, Genta! I will save it to share with our Lord. I'm sure he'd like some too."
"NO!" Genta burst out and laughed awkwardly when Ryuunosuke gave him a surprised look. "You're here and the sushi is fresh, you should have it first. Take-chan can share when he gets here."
"Share what?" Kotoha's sweet voice chirruped.
Genta spun around, but Ryuunosuke beat him to speaking. "Genta made sushi," he said, "Come, Kotoha, share it with me, too."
Kotoha nodded happily. "Okay! Thank you for the food, Genta."
"Did somebody say food?" Chiaki asked, ambling in with Mako on his heels.
Ryuunosuke waved them over. "Yes. Kotoha and I were about to partake in the sushi that Genta made. Come, join us. We will share with our Lord when he comes."
None of them noticed Genta sink to the floor in despair. They weren't supposed to share his confession! Ryuunosuke opened the box. There was silence. Genta didn't look up for a while, muttering to himself about his poor, ruined confession box. Then he felt the weight of four pairs of eyes on him and looked up. Kotoha, Mako, Ryuunosuke and Chiaki all stared back at him. Ryuunosuke seemed to be trembling slightly. Perhaps with joy at the weight of Genta's confession!
Genta perked up. "What is it?"
"Genta..." Ryuunosuke started quietly.
Kotoha, Mako and Chiaki backed away. Genta stood, scratching the back of his neck.
"It's sudden right? I know that. But I really was having a hard time not saying anything, and --"
"I will never go out with you," Ryuunosuke said quietly. "I will not go out with anyone not a samurai and I will never recognize you as a samurai. You don't have the education or training. You can't read or write; you used the wrong stroke order in 'ki' and you didn't even write it!" He threw the box down. "My answer is no. Never."
There was a stunned silence throughout the room. Even the Kuroko seemed to have forgotten why they'd sprung to attention when the sushi exploded over the floor. Genta put on his brightest smile and nodded, turning and taking his place at the calligraphy set up in the far corner. It didn't take very long for his shoulders to start shaking. Chiaki turned on Ryuunosuke and shoved him angrily.
"Why the hell did you say it like that?" he demanded. "You are such an insensitive prick!"
"That wasn't nice, Ryuunosuke," Kotoha said mournfully, giving Ryuunosuke her best glare (which was less a real glare and more the righteous stare of someone who'd caught a man kicking puppies). "He worked really hard on that box of sushi!"
Mako stared at Ryuunosuke, pursed her lips, and went to sit next by Genta's side. Then the worst of all bad things that could possibly happen happened. Takeru entered. He looked around, taking stock of the sushi, the ruined box, Ryuunosuke's guilty face and Genta's shaking shoulders.
"Ryuunosuke?"
Ryuunosuke fell to one knee. "Yes, Lord?"
"Is that my childhood friend in the corner?" Takeru asked.
Ryuunosuke looked up. "... Erm. Yes, Lord."
Takeru blinked. "Is that my childhood friend in the corner, crying?"
There was a note to Takeru's voice that made Ryuunosuke cringe. "Erm... yeeeeees. Lord."
Takeru nodded. He turned around. Mako moved swiftly to another floor cushion and let Takeru take her place at the one next to Genta. Takeru said nothing more; just moved the cushion and supplies close enough that when he was settled his side touched Genta's.
"Calligraphy practice has begun."
------
Ryuunosuke was at his wits end. Takeru had ignored him for a whole three hours. His lord! His only master in the universe was IGNORING HIM COMPLETELY and Ryuunosuke had only himself to blame. How could he have been so cruel to the childhood friend of his lord? How could he have done something so dishonorable? He was unfit to fight along side the Shinkenger. He would only drag them down with his unpure heart.
Ryuunosuke shoved a shirt and some underwear into a bag, took care that no one noticed he was leaving, and bowed at the entrance to the Shiba family house. "I will return when I am worthy, Lord!"
The Kuroko looked at him with tilted heads, but he didn't take any notice. He had to train! Ryuunosuke left for the nearest mountain.
------
Ryuunosuke returned a month later, his clothes the worse for wear but his body and soul ready to fight with his lord once more. He smiled as the house came into view, running full speed into the entrance.
"I'M HOME!"
Almost immediately five people came running to greet him, four of them proclaiming how worried they'd been and demanding to know why he hadn't at least left a note and did he know how much trouble he'd caused? Ryuunosuke said nothing, just caught Genta's eye. The voices faded away slowly. Genta blinked.
"What?"
Ryuunosuke bowed deeply. "I have done a terrible thing to you. I should never have reacted like that. I should have been far more sensible. I still cannot date you, but I apologize for my lost temper."
Genta laughed and waved his hands. "Oh! Don't worry about it, don't worry!" he said.
Ryuunosuke straightened himself and smiled. Now his lord would surely forgive him!
Genta continued, "I realized that it wouldn't have worked out with you and me. I've had a month to work out things with Take-chan. We've been going out for two weeks!"
"Genta..." Takeru sighed. But a smile tugged at his lips.
Ryuunosuke fell to his hands and knees in shock. "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
