And so I return from a weekend jaunt into Urbana, Il, wherein I met [livejournal.com profile] slipperyliz's family for the comissioning of her brother into the Marines. Also I saw Pirates 3 a second time; and yeah, it was just as good as the first time. Not a lot of sleep was gotten, although I did finish The House of Gaian and get a nice start on The Assassin King.

In between helping to set up for the comissioning, I got a peek at my e-mail, and learned that I've been accepted into a Bunraku program out of a Michigan college. Over June and July I'll be in Iida, Japan. A most awesome summer, if I do say so myself.

Now that we've both squeed, you'll have to forgive my ignorance, but what is Bunraku?

If not, you're going to come back to half of your FL in a mental institute!

Hehehe, I didn't expect a whole lot of people to know it. Bunraku is a traditional puppetry that comes predominantly out of Osaka. The puppets are about 3 foot tall and operated by 3 people - the Master Puppeteer who operates the head and the right arm, and two apprentices, one who opperates the legs (junior most apprentice) and one who opperates the left arm. It's a very precise art - it requires a lot of discipline and a lot of young people aren't interested in it. I'm weird like that :D

And then I'll join you!

Yeah, a little. Close enough that I can get to Kyoto and Osaka fairly easily, though. Bunraku, in my opinion, is like kabuki for puppets. If you liked kabuki, then you'd probably enjoy bunraku.
