Last night marked the second midnight showing I've seen this year. For last night did Pirates of the Carribbean: At World's End come out. And damn was it ever worth it.

Hoooooooly shit. Pirates got dark. For Pirates, anyway.

We open with repeated hangings. Talk about attetion-catchers.

Then we have singing. Yes, singing. We're hardly turning Pirates into a musical, and the 'Yo Ho' that was such a popular refrain in the first movie hasn't made a real appearance since. This song is called 'Hoist the Colors', if I recall correctly. And it is brilliant.

I'd love to go through this as a blow by blow, but I hardly think anyone really wants to read that. We'll go through major points instead.

As I said, this movie is dark as Disney goes. It's also dark as lighting goes. Fog is the order of the day, and there are only a few shots filmed in sunlight. Of those shots filmed in light, most of them happen either in Davy Jones' Locker, or aboard the Endavour; the flagship of the British forces.

Will got bitchy. Also conniving. Pirate.

I'm still pissed that Norrington was shuffled off as quickly as he was.

Barbossa is made of win and awesome. This is true. Jack is just better. Jack the Monkey is adorable when he's not undead.

Gibbs is still my favorite pirate ever.

Closure between Calypso and Davey Jones would have been nice.

The final sea battle. HOLY MOTHER OF GOD the final sea battle. The end.
