Dec. 13th, 2005 01:33 pmAfter being properly lazy in my new vacationing mentality, and doing nothing that involves more than simple reaction, I have finally gotten myself together to not only type an entry, but begin work on several costumes I've been meaning to make for a couple of years now. And now, to the entry.
Getting home was far more pleasant than I expected it to be. Apparently the Detriot airport has learned what no other airport has been able to: the value of being on time. Scarily so, actually - there was no delay getting from Appleton to Detriot (up yours Chicago; Detriot had snow on the ground - you didn't even have rain), and (thank god I finished eating when I did because if I hadn't I might have missed it) the flight from Detriot to New York borded and left on time. The Detriot airport also has this tunnel thing to get from terminal 1 to terminal 2, with a fuckin' awesome light show along the walls as you pass through it. It's really pretty. My luggage even came through without a hitch - it was one of the first pieces off the plane. So, with all this in mind, assuming my flight back is as good as it was coming here, I will never, never go through O'Hare again.
Upon getting back, the first thing I did was eat pizza, then some proper Chinese food, and slept in until 12 the next day. That day, I hooked up with Fuu, Ami, and Jose and went go to see The Chronicals of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. (This was after confusion and mis-communication denied us the tickets to see Brokeback Mountain, which I'm still sad about, but should be able to see this Friday.) A word before I say anything else about this movie: If you haven't yet paid the money to go see it, and were wanting to, don't. It's not worth it. It's not often that I really just don't like a movie, based on books or not, but this one I really didn't like. And it's not because we were sitting in the front row, either - which I think actually made it more interesting and bearable to watch. New perspectives and all, although there were some shots where I did get far more intimate with the actors' noses than I ever wanted to. But anyway. The fact that they titled the movie after the second book aside, basically what the movie makers did was to take all five books and attempt to shove them into two and a half hours of bad acting, shiny armor, and what appeared to be interspecies pedophilia. Now, as I read the books a very long time ago and don't remember everything about them, I can't really say how unfaithful to the books they were. Instead I quote Ami, who has read them far more recently, and probably more often than I have: "C.S. Lewis just died in his grave."
