vintage_belle: (CATS - Tugger and Mistoffelees)

At last, at way too long last, I have seen Cats once again. Not just any Cats, but Cats on a proper stage, with proper lighting and costumes and no horrible right-in-the-middle-of-dances-where-it's-most-obvious cuts. Aaaaaaah, t'was bloody heaven. They [the actors] were all so cute and they interacted with each other so wonderfully. There were these great little moments, like Munkustrap and Alonzo being confused by Mistofellees' blinking lights and trying to pounce on them, and Munkustrap rolling off the oven at the end of the show, and Tugger being pushed over by Bombalurina at the end of curtain call. The Rum Tum Tugger made Omi Very Happy. In many, many ways. Plato did his 'I'm a Tugger Fanboy' leg stroke/kick thing again, proving that they are meant to be. Except not, but that's entirely besides the point. Demeter and Bombalurina PWN you all with Macavity and Alonzo was shadowing Demeter's moves during her part, which was a tiny bit of heaven unto itself. The man really, really, really knows how to move. :dies in puddle of drool:

The Rum Tum Tugger, however, must have been broken, because he didn't dance half of what he should have danced during the Jellicle Ball. Jemima (they insisted on calling her Sillabub) sang not through her nose but in it. That made Omi very Not Happy. They also cut out a rather unusual part of Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer - as in it's not a part they usually cut when they do cuts. Not a bad thing in and of itself, just odd.

They did Growltiger to absolute perfection, either at the cost of The Awful Battle of the Pekes and the Pollicles or not, but they didn't do The Awful Battle of the Pekes and the Pollicles, which is disappointing but not unexpected. Magical Mister Mistofelees was its usual highlight, and this actually had the Conjuring Turn (as opposed to some things DVD that I could mention). I counted about fifteen turns before I lost count, but I know he went a good bit past that. The cats came out into the audience both during the overture (complete with glowing green eye-goggles) and during The Naming of Cats. I know I've heard complaints that they don't from others so I count myself as damn lucky.

All in all, this has been a very, very, very satisfying day. And I've got Cats stuck in my head. I am not at all displeased.
